Black house in Furano is a holiday home for people who enjoy winter sports and gardening like the way of Furano area. It sits on a hill close to Kitanomine ski resort. We created main spaces on the second floor affording great view toward Tokachi mountain range and arranged other rooms like ski room, storage and extra bedroom on the first floor which is receiving an affect of snow. The black façades emphasize colors of Furano nature season to season and they show each character of floors clearly. Thus, hi-polished metal panels wrap the first floor volume as solid one but it reflect the surrounding light, snow, trees as a screen blending its presence into the nature. For the second floor, sense of transparency by large glass and horizontal elements such as sharp-edged roof eave and balcony connect inside and outside spaces. Dark stained local ceder are arranged in small panels hiding under the shadow that white warm space of the inside appears to be floating in the Furano landscape.
